According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 22 percent of Interpreters and translators are self employed. This shows how you can set up your career as an interpreter.
If you want you can work on your own or choose a good translation and interpretation organization for a consistent payment. You can work even as a part-time interpreter and this gives you flexibility to enhance your skill further for a bright career.
Fluency in at least two languages is the minimum criteria for a person who wants to take up career as an interpreter. If you are looking for a job, a person with a bachelor’s degree might help him acquire a good salaried job in a reputed organization. There are many universities which are offering courses and training programs on interpretation and translation.
But interpretation is a skill game. Because as an interpreter you will have very less time to convert one language into another, in many situations, you will have to pay a lot of attention during the process.
