US Small Business Profile In 2007: SBA

About 6.0 million small employers and 21.7 million non-employers are making significant contributions to the economy. They are also bringing innovative products and services to the market place. These small businesses are considered as an important source of employment and opportunity throughout the United States. According to Office of Advocacy statistics:

  • In 2008, Real Gross Domestic Product of the United States has increased by 0.7 percent.
  • There is a decrease in private-sector employment of about 0.7 percent in 2008.
  • In 2006, the health-care and social assistance industry was the nation’s largest small business and overall employer.
  • Small businesses are considered as the major force in the nation’s net job change.
  • The small business employers in the US were about 6.0 million in 2006 which represents 99.7 percent of the nation’s employers and 50.2 percent of the private-sector employment.
