Since 2004, the sales of small cars were seen to be on rise every year, except 2009 and 2010, i.e, during the times of recession. But the sales are expected to be higher in the coming years in USA. In 2010, U.S. sales of small cars gained just 0.3%, while the overall market climbed 11%. Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic were the America’s No. 1 and No. 2 selling small cars in 2010, and they are the benchmarks for value and reliability. These models faces the competition from the number of small cars to be introduced by the auto makers all over the world who are looking to introduce their small cars in to the US market.

The US small car market segment will have a bright future. This positive turn can be attributed to the increase in fuel prices, as the Americans are found preferring the small cars to SUVs because of their fuel efficient nature. For example, Chevrolet offers a version of its roomy Cruze compact, Which is rated by the EPA as the best-in-class vehicle in this segment as it gives, 42 mpg on the highway. Ford Focus and Fiesta both give 40 mpg. Ready to be launched model of Hyundai, the sleek Elantra, gives 40 m.p.g.

The new cars expected to be launched in 2011 in to US market are Buick Verano, Chevrolet Sonic, Dodge Caliber replacement, Fiat 500, Ford Focus, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Veloster, Kia Rio, Lexus CT 200h, Mini Countryman, Mini coupe, Nissan Juke, Scion tC, Scion iQ, Smart For Two electric, Toyota Prius V, Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Beetle etc.

The auto makers offering small cars with better technology and higher quality, exiting look and more comfort are expected to have good sales in the market.
