Drug Addiction is a serious problem among all the age groups, in particular among teens. The latest statistics released by NIDA’s Monitoring the Future Survey shows increasing number of teens getting addicted as well as affected due to marijuana abuse.

According to the report ,the percentage of eight graders who used an illicit drug increased from 14.5% in the last year to 16%percent, with a daily marijuana use going up in all grades. Again many eighth graders are trying to follow many means of marijuana use and on the other hand students from all the grades are consuming marijuana on a daily basis.

In 2010, 21.4 percent of high school seniors used marijuana in the past 30 days. On a whole 6.1 percent of high school seniors, 3.3 percent of 10th graders, and 1.2 percent of eighth graders are abusing marijuana.

Along with the statistics on consumption, MTF also found the future abusing attitudes of the teens basing on the data collected. It also included perceived harmfulness, perceived availability and disapproval of smoking marijuana. The perception that the regular marijuana smoking is harmful decreased for 10th graders from 59.5 % in 2009 to 57.2 % in 2010, and in 12th graders it dropped from 52.4% to 46.8%. In case of eight graders, disapproval of smoking marijuana decreased significantly.

These stats show the increased abuse of marijuana among the younger ones. Many studies say that the child tendency of experimenting unknown things tend them to involve in such kind of activities and the parents are required to take care of them and help them to stay away from unhealthy habits.

Drug Addiction and substance abuse are one among the major problems that are harming the present generation like any thing else. There are so many reasons for a child to get used to those illicit drugs and spoiling his own future.

A new study found a surprising reason for the children becoming marijuana abusers. A research conducted by Green State University reported an evidence of association between the father’s incarceration and the elevated risk for illegal drug use in adolescence. The increased number in the number of father’s getting imprisonment made the researchers work in that direction.

This study used the data collected from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, which followed a sample of adolescents from their early ages to mid 20′s and examined the connection between having an imprisoned father and marijuana and other illicit drug abuse .

Around 51% of the young men and 40% of young women, who are having an incarcerated father reported using marijuana when compared to 38% men and 28% women, whose fathers never got incarcerated. Biological father’s incarceration is also associated with the use of other illicit drugs like the cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. They also exhibited elevated trajectories of marijuana usage that extended in their mid twenties.

The researchers also added that these cases are more among the poor and minority communities where there are frequent imprisonments for petty things. Study showed that 13% of the young adults in US report their fathers spent time in their childhood and this number shows the potential size of the problem.

Cocaine is a type of drug that tends to stimulate the nervous system, cocaine can be snorted in powder form, smoked when in the form of rocks or injected when made into liquid.

According to survey of MTF, there have been important changes in the levels of overall cocaine use over the life of MTF. The percentage of the 12th grade who are abusing cocaine is just 2.9% in 2010. Use of the cocaine among 8th and 10th graders increased after 1992 before reaching peak levels in 1998 and 1999. Over the last decade, its use declined in all three grades, most recently in 12th grade.

Perceived risk levels also increased in 12th graders, since 1975 to 1986 there is a decrease in the perceived risk of the cocaine. Perceived risk of the cocaine is in its peak level during 1990′s and from there it is constant. In 2010 the percentage of the perceived risk of the cocaine is 56.

Disapproval of cocaine use by 12th graders followed a cross time pattern similar to that for perceived risk. Percentage of disapproving of using cocaine once or twice is nearly 90 in the year of 2010.

The proportion of 12th graders saying that it would be very easy for them to get cocaine was 33 percent in 1977, it increased with the time and reached its peak stage in 1989 and the percentage in this year reached to 59. After 2007, it dropped significantly and stands at 36% in 2010. The advent of crack cocaine in the early 1980s, which is a cheaper form of cocaine resulted in the increase of use and the availability of the cocaine.

Ecstasy is also called as MDMA, this drug tends to create a sense of euphoria and an expansive love or desire to nurture others. When taken in excess, it increases body temperature to the point of being fatal. Ecstasy addiction often leads to exhaustion, dehydration and sometimes even death. Ecstasy is used more for its mildly hallucinogenic properties than for its stimulant properties.

There is an increase in the use of the Ecstasy during 1990′s in all the three graders. After 2007 the trend lines leveled off in all grades until annual prevalence increased significantly in the lower grades between 2009 and 2010.

As per the MTF reports, there is a significant rise in the perceived risk in 2003 in all three graders, however there is a decrease in the levels of perceived risk in 2004. The decline in perceived risk continued into 2010 in the upper grades.

Disapproval of ecstasy use increased significantly in all three grades in 2002, may be because of the rise in perceived risk. The significant increases in disapproval continued through 2003 for 8th graders, 2004 for 10th graders, and 2006 for 12th graders. Since then the disapproval of Ecstasy use decreased sharply among 8th graders, less among 10th graders, and there was no change among 12th graders.

There has been increase in the 12th graders’ perceived availability of ecstasy after 1991. Perceived availability then declined considerably in all grades after 2001 but leveled in 2010.

Prescription drugs are the drugs which are prescribed by a physician to treat physical pain, anxiety and sleep disorders etc. Many patients become dependent on them and continue to take them even after the disease is cured and this leads to addiction to those drugs. Prescription drugs are the second most commonly abused drugs after marijuana. According to National Institutes of Health statistics nearly 20 percent of people in the United States have used prescription drugs for non medical reasons.

There are mainly three types of prescription drugs that the people get addicted often, they are pain killers, sedatives and stimulants. One of the factor for getting addicted to these drugs is the availability of drugs, as these are the over the counter drugs. Second factor is, people think that they are safer and less addictive than the street drugs. These drugs can produce drowsiness, constipation and, depending on amount taken, can depress breathing. Addiction to prescription drugs often results in negative effects on personal relationships, employment difficulties and job loss, financial difficulties, legal issues, and psychological problems.

Recent studies and the prescription drug addiction statistics shows that illicit drugs are used more by the young people who are aged between 18 and 25 years. When compared to the trends in the use of illicit drugs, trends in the use of prescription drug addiction are different. Presently, over 30 percent of medications are prescribed for elders having 65 years of age, but most of these age group individuals are found to consume the medication which is not prescribed to them. Youngsters in the age group of 12 to 17 years have also shown a tendency of consuming non prescribed medication. Women in this age group are more likely to consume such drugs than men.

Drug rehabilitation programs have changed a lot positively just in the past few years and it is a continuous program. Insurance companies, parents, state governments etc. are demanding the evidence for the outcome before funding on the rehabilitation programs. So drug rehab administrators are able to present outcome based evidences to show that their programs are effective.

Drug rehab is a continuous process and the treatment for drug addiction requires long term lifestyle changes in behaviors and attitudes, and sometimes even environments. This process may take years to complete for certain individuals based on their personal histories of dependency.

Majority of people relapse more than once and relapses do not take away the progress they have made toward achieving their goal of drug free lives.

Old thinking was that drug rehab usually requires intensive treatment of thirty days or more and the new trend is an addict is much more likely to recover if she/he enters and completes an intensive drug rehab program, no matter whatever the time period may be.

Intensive treatment is a residential program which requires you to live at the drug rehab center for a month or more and it also has the option of attending the classes and counseling sessions for several weeks or months.

Dual diagnosis is a new important trend in drug rehab and this program also identifies and treats the underlying psychological problems like depression, eating disorders, hyperactivity disorder, bipolar disorder.

Another trend in the drug rehab is that, for treating the person addicted to drugs, support from the family and the friends is required.

A person addicted to drugs must find other ways to cope up with the stress and this can involve steps such as changing careers, ending toxic relationships, setting new goals, and taking up stress relieving activities such as sports, fine arts, or meditation. Trained counselors help the addicts to cope up through these major changes.

After giving intensive treatment, follow up is necessary and this can be done by individual counseling, family counseling, and attending support meetings such as Narcotics Anonymous.

Medications for treating the drug addicts are undergoing continuous changes and these helps them to withdraw from drugs and remain abstinent.

People have more choices and diversity in selecting drug rehab programs and there are many types of payment options available for the drug addicts.

The way a drug addicted patient is being treated at rehab centers has changed rapidly in recent past. The rehab centers are using more friendlier way of treating drug addicts.

Marijuana drug test is being conducted on employees and children at home, schools and other organizations to prevent the drug addiction. Marijuana addiction causes certain side effects such as memory problems, sleep problems, difficulty in speech and understanding, hallucinations, and lack of coordination. These effects may alter social behavior of the drug user.

Marijuana abuse among students leads to impairment in learning and thinking abilities. These effects can be seen for 24 hours after marijuana consumption. Heavy marijuana usage causes memory problems, difficulty in concentration, and decline in comprehension and cognitive skills.

Marijuana users lack their motivation in all aspects of life like school, family, work, and other responsibilities. This in turn affects social behavior. Decrease in performance, termination from employment and others are some of the effects seen at workplaces due to marijuana abused employees. Marijuana abused employees are absent to work regularly and are associated with accidents, tardiness, and workers’ compensation claims.

In schools, lack of motivation may affect learning skills and performance in studies. Friendship with such students is also avoided by many others. This may depress the drug user, giving rise to many psychotic problems. Marijuana abused students get lower grades in studies and are found to be less likely graduated in schools when compared to other students. Heavy drug use may increase criminal activities. The drug addicted people unnecessarily fight with others and may be involved in crime related issues.

Thus, important measures of life such as cognitive abilities, social life, career status, and physical and mental health are effected by marijuana addiction. Special treatment should be given to such addicted people. THC drug test has to be conducted at schools and organizations. Certain rehabilitation programs have to be arranged for people with drug addicted symptoms and altered social behavior. Treatment may include special cognitive behavior therapy.

Marijuana drug test is conducted at home, schools, and other organizations to check the drug abused people. It is done as a part of drug-free education program. Marijuana is an illegal drug which is used by most people in the United States. It is necessary for parents to know about the effects of marijuana on health to avoid their children from the drug abuse.

Marijuana consists of an active component called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The compound binds to specific receptors in brain which are termed as cannabinoid receptors. A psychoactive reaction is caused by THC which when consumed at low dosage causes pain reduction, reduces aggression and nausea, and stimulates appetite. However, consumption of high dose of the drug causes dangerous health effects.

Long-term usage of marijuana increases amount of THC in the body. This affects respiratory, cardiovascular, and immune systems. Primarily, it affects nervous system causing alteration in coordination, balance, and memory. Suicidal tendencies, hallucinations, and other behavioral changes are observed in long-term marijuana users.

Once marijuana is consumed, it enters bloodstream and is distributed throughout the body. Fatty tissues of various organs absorb THC. Traces of THC after absorption are sent out through urine. Its metabolites are detected in urine during marijuana drug test.
