Social networking sites have also been the effective tools promoting online advertising. eMarketer, a research firm, reports that the online display ad revenues of Facebook in the US are estimated to grow to $2.19 billion by 80.9%. A large number of people spend a large amount of time on Facebook. This favors an increased chance of online display ad impressions, especially for its unique form of banners. Facebook is estimated to grab the first position in terms of online display ad revenue pushing back the Yahoo Inc.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Facebook accounts for about 17.7% of the online display ad market share in 2011 and is estimated to rise to 19.4% in 2012. Apart from Facebook, the net online display ad revenue growth of Google, Microsoft, Yahoo! and AOL is estimated to be 34.4%, 18.7%, 13.6% and 10.5% respectively in 2011. The data given by the eMarketer of the US online display ad revenues is based on the online display ads which include banner ads, sponsorships, rich media and video.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Furthermore, Yahoo! and Google are expected to face a growth of 12.5% and 12.3% respectively in 2012. Three factors are considered to promote the display revenue growth of Google. They include large advertisers who are Google customers, brand marketers looking to Youtube for widening their video advertising reach, and the range of SMBs who have relived on search for years but are looking to expand their reach. However, as of 2011, Facebook stands first in the online display advertising market in the US.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">It is known that there has been a shift in advertising trends from traditional means to the use of internet. However, with the rise in technology, even mobile phones contribute to the marketing needs of businesses. Advertising through mobile phones is termed as mobile advertising. The advent of the smartphones or 3G or apps ecosystem had accounted for the growth of mobile advertising. For the first time, the trends and growth of mobile advertising was included in the IAB Europe&#8217;s AdEx survey. As per the survey, data was collected from only 12 markets. It was found that the mobile ad spend in those markets accounted for 2% to 3% of the total online ad spend in 2010.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Mobile display accounted for 11.4% in Finland, 3.5% in Italy, 3.1% in Spain, 2.8% in UK and Norway and 0.7% in Hungary. It was found that there was a massive lag between mobile Internet usage and advertising expenditure. About 28% of the Internet time was spent on smartphones. 23 millions of the 45 million mobile users in the UK used m-commerce. This is, however, expected to experience a dramatic growth.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The time gap between search and purchase on the web is generally one month. However, it is only one hour on mobile. As such immediate conversions are possible with mobile phones, it is necessary for the advertisers to optimize the aspects of mobile technology to drive and expedite these purchases. Mobile advertisers are advised to consider issues like providing right information for consumers, multi-screen accessibility, increased targeting, focus on customer rather than on technology and staying social. It is said that the mobile becomes the best device for brands to communicate with consumers by the breakdown of cost, content and connectivity barriers.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: justify;">According to recently released Small Business Success Index which was sponsored by Network Solutions and University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business, small and medium sized businesses in US are opting for social media to boost their customer base.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As per the reports, the SMBs opting for social media has doubled from 12 percent to 24 percent when compared to 2009.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As per SBSI, 1 out of 5 small business owners are actively using social media in their business. SMBs are showing more interest in investing in social media applications including blogs, LinkedIn, Facebook profiles.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Important Findings</strong><br />
Many of the small businesses are attracting new customers by utilizing the benefits of social media. About 75 percent of them who were surveyed have a company page on social networking sites. More than 61 percent of SMBs are using social media to attract and identify new customer. 57 percent of them have a built network through social networking sites. About 45 percent are expecting that the social media will be profitable in the next 12 months.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Small business owners are a bit concerned over the social media. About 50 percent of small business owners who use social media expressed that it is taking more time than expected. 17 percent of the small business owners expressed that social media is giving a chance to criticize their business on the Internet. About 16 percent feel that social media has damaged their image on Internet more than it had helped.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Many of the small businesses have experienced positive effects because of the economic downturn. More than 72 percent were able to find ways to efficiently operate. It has increased from June which was just 66 percent. 47 percent of the small businesses were encouraged to find new products and services which would benefit their customers. About 43 percent of the small businesses could get better teams.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The small businesses are largely focusing on online presence. They are largely investing on company websites. They are adding new features to their website and hence increasing their functionality. This will enable them to showcase their new products and services. This will ultimately attract many customers to their website.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Google assigns a numeric weighting from 0-10 for each webpage on a logarithmic scale (like Richter scale), meaning that the gaps between the integers increase logarithmically the closer you get to 10. So, for example, the gap between the 2 and 3 is quite small, whereas the gap between 7 and 8 is huge in comparison. As such, boosting your PageRank from a 2 to 3 would be quite easy, and going from a 7 to 8 would be quite hard.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Does pagerank only matters for getting a high ranking?</strong><br />
No. pagerank is not the only thing that matters, things like keyword density, and the anchor text used to link to the site will also have varying degrees of effect on Google.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">But somehow pagerank matters because it is one of the factors that determine a page&#8217;s ranking in the search results. It isn&#8217;t the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important one.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">At one point, PageRank (PR) was a major factor in rankings. Today it is one of hundreds of factors in the algorithm that determines a page’s rankings.<br />
Google updates its algorithm regularly to keep its results relevant. So, the formula used to determine pagerank and Google rankings is not constant.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Alexa Traffic Rank:</strong><br />
This is a ranking system set by alexa.com (a subsidiary of amazon.com). Alexa traffic rank gives rough indication of the traffic your website is getting. The traffic rank provides historical traffic data. The traffic rank number gives the three months aggregated data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users. And it is a combined measure of page views and users.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The lower your rating on Alexa the better. If you have a ranking under 100,000 then your website should be getting good traffic. 3,000,000 to 4,000,000 ratings are for new sites mostly, or sites with no traffic basically. While a rating of 1 will be for the website with the most traffic.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Alexa’s objective is to show the actual traffic of a particular website, the number that it shows serves as only a random sample of the actual traffic of that website. This is because only a small percentage of internet users are using Alexa toolbar, where Alexa Traffic Ranking algorithm solely base its computation and ranking. In addition to this, Alexa Toolbar works only with the Internet Explorer browser and on Windows operating systems.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Thus, Alexa Traffic Rank has a considerable percentage of error and doesn’t really reflect the exact and actual traffic of a website. But since the traffic was base on a random sample and assuming that the sampling is close to uniform, it could still be a good bases for giving idea of the amount of traffic and traffic ranking, just always remember that it has some percentage of error.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Google Pagerank and Alexa Traffic Rank though both attempted to rank the websites. On the other hand, they are entirely different in their objective, (Google rank web pages according to its popularity and importance based on inbound links while Alexa rank the websites according to its traffic, which is randomly sampled). That is why it is more often that they show a different and contradicting statistics, specially, for a relatively small and new websites.</p>
