According to US International Trade Commission, the share of small and medium-sized enterprises in manufacturing activity and exports is less than the share of small and medium-sized enterprises in EU manufacturing activity and exports. SMEs contributed for approximately 19 % of the value of United States sales and about 40 percent of the value of the sales in EU in 2005.
As per the US International Trade Commission, about $231-$275 billion in total value was estimated to be by SME manufacturing firms in EU in 2005 which is about 31 percent of the total exports in EU compared to the $65 billion in exports which is about 13 percent of the total exports in United States.
United States has greater role of non-manufacturing SMEs than EU. About 39 percent of the United States SME exports are by manufactures when compared to the 51 percent of the EU SME exports. About 41 percent of the SME exports in US are by wholesalers compared to the 24 percent of the SME exports in EU.
