What is the Role of Vitamins in Weight Loss?

Having ideal weight as per your body height is necessary to stay healthy. Excessive weight may be seen in case of certain diseased conditions, when there is an inappropriate metabolism. Nutrients, especially vitamins, regulate weight-control and weight-related functions like hunger, appetite, metabolic rate, metabolism of fats and sugars, calorie-burning and so on.

Different types of vitamin B, especially, B2, B3, B5, B6, and B12 are linked with weight loss. They are essential in creating new blood cells, increasing energy levels, and regulating metabolism. Vitamins B2, B3, and B6 are involved in regulating the thyroid function and metabolism. Vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid plays an important role in energy production and assists adrenal function. Hence, having foods such as egg yolk, dairy products, fortified grain products, leafy vegetables, and legumes help in weight loss.

Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, plays a role in maintaining metabolism. It even increases the levels of good cholesterol that help remove the bad cholesterol from the body. Hence, it prevents accumulation of plaques in blood vessels. The best sources of this vitamin are seeds, nuts, avocado, vegetable oil, wheat germ oil, leafy or green vegetables, and whole grains.

Vitamin C also plays a role in proper conversion of glucose to energy in the cells. It even burns more fat. It even strengthens the immune system. Hence, including vitamin C-rich foods such as broccoli, green peppers, oranges, strawberries, cabbage, and so on in your diet can help you in losing weight. In addition to these, vitamin D is also considered to aid in weight loss.

It should, however, be remembered that any of these vitamins should be taken in adequate amounts as excessive dosage may otherwise show adverse effects.
